Plan your goals with your life partner!

Image
Working together as husband and wife can have advantages, but you need to give a breathing space to the two partners, which is our experience.  We pride ourselves in being a strong couple that supports each other, despite our strong personalities, that sometimes can have different opinions. In times, we clash with our ideas, we sit down and discuss until we reach a common agreement. The good thing about us as a husband and wife team working is that we put our clients and work foremost before our individual needs. We both are in agreement on the majority of ideas if one partner has suggestions, we discuss. Both of us are open-minded about giving space and room for the other to grow and develop.  Every day, we spent a few minutes to plan for the day or the next day. We have one big whiteboard and a small whiteboard that we make our plans and write down our goals. This helps us to keep track of our goals and achievements. We have learnt to plan together and live harmoniously....

Husband and Wife Team

It is a question we always get asked, how did we meet. I am from Maldivian and my husband is from the UK. We met 10 years ago online and after six months of chatting, I flew to the UK. On the same day, we got married Islamically. It was after 2 years that we got married by British law and after 2 years that we were able to register our marriage in the Maldives. This is because at first, we lived in the UK for a few years, then later moved to the Maldives and currently we're living in Malaysia. I am pursuing my Doctorate in Business Administration at the Asia Metropolitan University (AMU) in Malaysia. We have been here in Malaysia for 2 years and we love everything about Malaysia and have made lifelong friends.       Myself in the Maldives in 2018 John-Khalid in the Maldives in 2018 Like any couple, we have our differences but we have learnt to forgive and give space to each other. We have made terrible mistakes in our lives, our future is to be better and help others...

Time management

Image
I have been asked over and over again, how do I manage my life. People see my updates and posts on social media. Others can see the busy and hectic life I lead. I am bored if I am not doing some, so I need to keep myself engaged. I start early morning and try as much as possible to sleep early. This helps my energy level to keep up throughout the day. Usually, I wake up around 4.30 or 5am and then as a Muslim, I do the fajr, the morning prayer. Some non-Muslims may suggest meditation to keep peace in mind, but this is the meditation to me. I feel I am ready to face the challenges of the day if I do my morning prayers. In the early morning, I find that this is the best time to do things. When the whole world is sleeping, like right now. Here I am typing on my computer, the surrounding is quiet, the streets are dark and the only sounds are broken by the chirping of the birds. My husband and I keep a whiteboard in our studio, where we note down important events. Every day, we spend a few ...

Develop confidence to Speak in Public

Image
We all have to face this challenging feeling inside us, the lack of confidence to speak in public. I look back in my life to analyse when these feelings started. I remember sitting in the back row in school, invisible to other students. When I meet most of my classmates, they don't remember me. The reason could be I was quiet and remained anonymous. I kept to myself, as this seemed easier. I left school at level grade 9, I didn't want to study anymore. I had failed thrice in three grades and this was enough. My family was large, so I used lots of time on my own, and as time passed, I grew deeper into myself. The only thing I loved was reading and losing myself in the stories. I remember reading Enid Blyton's Famous Five book and the Mills and Boons among other stories. I remember reading the magical stories and imaging myself immersed as one of the characters.  I started working in the public sector during the daytime and in the evening I wanted to pursue another career, he...

Personal Development

Image
Life development is very loosely used as a process to improve our personal skills. It's commonly referred to as developing our personal skills. Personal development means the actions that we apply to improve our talents, skills or behaviour. It's the conscious decisions we take to improve yourself and prosper in life. This is one of the most learnt areas that we focus on lives, this is the desire and willpower to make better changes. Somehow, we feel that we owe it ourselves to achieve ambitious goals and dreams.  The desire to develop our personal development skills starts at the adult life, reaching the age of a teenage through to adult life. These thoughts are pushed through by the circumstances or the surroundings of our life. The family, the society and the working life sets expected standards that we cannot escape or avoid. To be part of the gang or fit into the system, we are required to enhance our set of skills.  Techniques to understand the areas for your personal de...

Business Ideas for aspiring women

Image
Business Ideas - Series 1 This article was published in the Muslimahs Business Network by Fathimath Afiya, 07 July 2017, Maldives The seed of starting a business is planted in our minds. It could be due to various reasons. The reasons could be that as women we want to be independent, earn a little money or just become successful in our lives. We may be with a family, single, divorced, widowed or in any type of marital status, but it doesn't matter.  For whatever reasons we want to start a business, we need to take action to make it happen. We need to push ourselves to trigger the idea in reality to start our business and to continue on the road to success. Researchers have suggested that it is challenging for women to start a business more than men. The challenges are the added burden of taking care of the children, the responsibility to do the household chores among other things. Some women are lucky to have the back of their men to support their business like me. While others are...
