Are you Coachable
Since I started mentoring people at the beginning of my career in the development sector in 1998, I invested a big part of my time in the growth of others. I realised early on when I worked in the President's Office on the lowest rungs of the administrative ladder that something was amiss. I would spend duty just filing papers and then the only time I got relief was when I get the duty to deliver the letters up to the big bosses.
Then I was transferred to State Trading Organisation, in those days, being transferred to another organisation was not seen as something acceptable. You were looked down by society. This made my resolve stronger to empower people if ever I became the boss.
In 1998, I co-founded Care Society and I became the boss. I had an Executive Board to give the direction of the Non-governmental organisation (NGO) but I had free rein to run. I had grown Care Society from running on my own funds to pay for the electricity and free space in an attic in my house. Then we started employing more people and got volunteers from other countries like Australia and UK. I was the BOSS that I had dreamt about.
However, one thing kept me grounded with the thought that I need to grow from others. That's how in the last three years, I have chosen to become a Certified Coach.
Last weekend on the 18th and 19th of June 2022, we had the second training to become International Coaching Federation (ICF) certified trainers. We had practice sessions.
We had trainees from all walks of life, people from lecturers to Chief Executive Officers. One thing out that we were grounded in different ways.
Are you Coachable? Are you open or have an open mind to explore your unlocked potential? Do you think you can grow beyond where you are now? Are you willing to talk and move ahead? Are you willing to accept change? Can you apply habits to transform?
If you have answered 'YES' to all the above questions, you are indeed coachable. Congratulations!
