Gratitude Journaling
I have been writing a journal for years. Sometimes
it's regular and other times, it's irregular. It is part of the writing journey
that I tried to write a journal. Some years it would lapse and other years I am
very consistent. Lots of stuff that I write are personal, full of emotions and
pain. My writing also includes a ray of hope for the future, this helps as I am
an optimist.
My friend Bavani Periasamy gave me a gratitude notebook on 27th June 2022. I
started jotting down things that I am grateful for every day. This formed a
habit that I am going to continue writing in my gratitude journal.
I have heard about being grateful for everything since
I was a child. We are taught to appreciate we have a roof over our heads, food
on the table and hands-down clothes from aunts. There are so many without basic
needs.
In 2020, as a practice, I started my gratitude ritual
after my morning prayers. As a Muslim, I try to fulfil my obligatory prayers,
five times a day. After morning prayers, I would lay my forehead on the prayer
mat and say grateful prayers to my creator, Allah. This helped me to appreciate
the good things in life, rather than focusing on things that are causing me
stress. This shift in thinking led me to be more appreciative of the goodness
in life, the lovely people who I sometimes take for granted. My husband, my family,
and my friends. Not everybody is alike and each in their way has contributed to
my life to make it a better place for me. I am so thankful for the greatness in
my life.
If you have had challenging in your life, know that
this is a temporary wave. You will get better things in life. One thing to
appreciate the goodness in life by being grateful for all the blessings in our
lives.
Let's be grateful for being alive, having lovely people
in our lives, and our ability to do things. Let's be grateful that you are
reading this article and are inspired to connect. Thank you!
